Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Portable Document Format (PDF) is an open file format created by Adobe Systems. It is used for representing two-dimensional documents in a device and resolution independent fixed-layout document format. A remote code execution vulnerability has been reported in Microsoft Malware Protection Engine. A remote attacker can exploit the vulnerability to execute arbitrary code on an affected system via a specially crafted PDF file. Successful exploitation allows execution of arbitrary code once a malformed PDF file is being scanned by the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine on a vulnerable system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block the transferring of malformed PDF files over HTTP.The detect mode makes it possible to track unauthorized traffic without blocking it.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75 / R71 / R70 / R65

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Microsoft Malware Protection Engine Crafted PDF Code Execution (MS07-010) protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:

Attack Name:  Content Protection Violation.
