|Who is Vulnerable?|
|Vulnerability Description||The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) provides central management of IP addresses and other details related to the IP configuration used on the network. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a specially craftedpacket through a malicious DHCP server. This may result in a denial of service condition on the vulnerable host. The vulnerability is due to an error in Microsoft Windows TCP/IP that fails to properly handle malformed DHCP packets.To trigger this issue, an attacker may create a malicious DHCP server and send packets through it to a vulnerable host. Successful exploitation may create a denial of service condition on the target host.|
This protection will detect and block malformed DHCP packets sent from a malicious server.The detect mode enables to detect the vulnerability without blocking it.
In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.
