Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Novell iPrint Client is an application that allows users to install and manage printers, or submit print job from a web browser. Novell iPrint Client is bundled with a set of ActiveX controls that implement various functions. A stack buffer overflow vulnerability has been reported in Novell iPrint Client browser plugin. The vulnerability is due to a boundary error while parsing the "call-back-url" parameter of the "op-client-interface-version" operation. If an overly long string is substituted as the parameter value, then a stack buffer overflow could occur allowing to overwrite critical data on the stack. A remote attacker may exploit this issue by enticing a user to access a malicious website. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability will allow for arbitrary code execution in the context of the logged in user. In an attack case where code execution in not successful, the application will terminate abnormally.

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the Novell iPrint Client Browser Plugin call-back-url Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.

This protection's log will contain the following information:
