Who is Vulnerable?
Vulnerability Description Informix is a family of relational database management system (RDBMS) products by IBM. IBM Informix Dynamic Server is an online transaction processing data server. A stack buffer overflow exists in IBM Informix Dynamic Server Database. The vulnerability is caused by insufficient checks within a logging function of the oninit.exe process. A remote attacker may exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted SET EXPLAIN command to a target server. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability will allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code on an affected system.

Protection Overview

This protection will detect and block attempts to exploit this vulnerability.

In order for the protection to be activated, update your Security Gateway product to the latest IPS update. For information on how to update IPS, go to SBP-2006-05, click on Protection tab and select the version of your choice.

Security Gateway R80 / R77 / R75

  1. In the IPS tab, click Protections and find the IBM Informix Dynamic Server oninit.exe EXPLAIN Stack Buffer Overflow protection using the Search tool and Edit the protection's settings.
  2. Install policy on all Security Gateways.
